  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup milk
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a half-sheet pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth. Combine with dry ingredients; stir until just blended.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. For the frosting, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; stir in cocoa powder until blended. Gradually add powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  6. Once the cake cools completely, pour frosting over it and spread evenly.
