  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Boil salted water in a large pot, add elbow macaroni, and cook until al dente (about 8 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour to form a roux, cooking for about 2 minutes.
  4. Gradually whisk in whole milk until smooth; cook for about 5 minutes until thickened.
  5. Stir in salt, pepper, and mustard powder.
  6. Remove from heat and mix in shredded cheddar until melted.
  7. Combine cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce until well-coated.
  8. Transfer to a greased baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top, and bake for 25 minutes until golden brown.
