Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two nine-inch round cake pans.
  2. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. In another bowl, whisk sugar and vegetable oil until glossy. Add buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla; mix well.
  4. Stir in red food coloring until combined.
  5. Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  6. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool cakes in pans for ten minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For frosting, beat butter and cream cheese until fluffy; gradually add powdered sugar.
  9. Frost cooled cakes between layers and on top; sprinkle with crushed Oreos.
