Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (or lamb)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 medium carrots, chopped
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 medium russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tbsp butter (for potatoes)
  • ½ cup milk (for potatoes)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil peeled and cubed potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (15-20 minutes). Drain and mash with butter and milk; season as desired.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add onions and carrots; cook until onions are translucent.
  3. Add ground beef/lamb to the skillet. Brown thoroughly while breaking into smaller pieces.
  4. Stir in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce; simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Spread meat mixture in a baking dish; layer mashed potatoes on top.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown.
