  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta in salted boiling water until al dente; drain and set aside.
  2. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat and sauté broccoli until bright green (about 3-4 minutes).
  3. In the same skillet, melt another tablespoon of butter; whisk in flour until smooth. Gradually add milk, stirring until thickened (4-5 minutes).
  4. Stir in cheddar cheese until melted.
  5. Combine cooked macaroni and sautéed broccoli with the cheese sauce; season with salt and pepper.
  6. For a crispy top, transfer to a greased baking dish, sprinkle with extra cheese or breadcrumbs, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes.
