Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large Russet potatoes (about 1 lb)

  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut into chunks and boil in cold water for 15-20 minutes until tender but firm.
  2. Drain and let cool slightly. Mash the potatoes until mostly smooth, leaving some texture.
  3. Stir in onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and flour until just combined—avoid overmixing.
  4. Roll small portions of the mixture into cylindrical shapes.
  5. In a deep pan or fryer, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the tater tots in batches until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes each. Drain on paper towels.
