Description

  • 1 lb beef chuck roast
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef chuck roast in a slow cooker on low for 6-8 hours until fork-tender. Shred the beef.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, then stir in flour to form a roux (3-4 minutes).
  3. Gradually whisk in beef broth until the mixture thickens (about 5 minutes). Stir in shredded beef, nutmeg, salt, and pepper; cool completely.
  4. Form small balls from the mixture, dip each into beaten eggs, then coat with panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Heat oil in a deep frying pan until shimmering (350°F). Fry Bitterballen in batches until golden brown (3-4 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels before serving.
