Indulge in the ultimate burger experience with these Caramelized Onion Burgers. The sweet, rich flavor of perfectly caramelized onions combined with juicy beef patties creates a mouthwatering delight that’s perfect for any gathering. These burgers are not only visually stunning but also simple to prepare, making them a go-to recipe for backyard barbecues or cozy dinners at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef (80/20)
  • 2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 soft burger buns
  • 4 slices provolone or cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp salt (divided)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and 1/2 tsp salt; cook low and slow for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  2. While onions caramelize, shape ground beef into four patties about 1 inch thick. Make an indent in the center of each patty and season both sides with remaining salt and pepper.
  3. Preheat grill or skillet on high heat; sear patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned and juicy. If desired, add cheese during the last minute of cooking to melt.
  4. Toast burger buns on the grill if preferred, then assemble burgers with caramelized onions and any additional toppings.
