Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups fresh cherries, pitted
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  3. Beat in the egg until mixed; reserve 1 cup of dough for topping.
  4. Press remaining dough into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  5. In another bowl, mix pitted cherries with sugar and almond extract; spread over crust.
  6. Crumble reserved dough over cherries.
  7. Bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown. Cool before slicing.
