  • 9 lasagna noodles (no-boil)
  • 1 lb lean ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 15 oz whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 large egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or sausage until no longer pink. Drain excess fat and stir in marinara sauce; simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with one egg, salt, pepper, and half of the chopped basil until smooth.
  4. In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer noodles, followed by the ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and more meat sauce. Repeat layers and finish with mozzarella on top.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes; uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  6. Let rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
