- 9 lasagna noodles (no-boil)
- 1 lb lean ground beef or Italian sausage
- 15 oz whole milk ricotta cheese
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 24 oz marinara sauce
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 1 large egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente.
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or sausage until no longer pink. Drain excess fat and stir in marinara sauce; simmer for 5-10 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with one egg, salt, pepper, and half of the chopped basil until smooth.
- In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer noodles, followed by the ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and more meat sauce. Repeat layers and finish with mozzarella on top.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes; uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- Let rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
