  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl; set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter with brown and granulated sugars until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing slowly after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  6. Divide the batter in half and stir cocoa powder into one half until evenly mixed.
  7. Spoon alternating dollops of each batter into the prepared pan; swirl gently with a knife.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden edges form and a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Allow cooling in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
